Sydney, NSW, 28th May, 2011 - Due to the concerns of many sports loving Australians, worried about their accessibility to major sports within Australia, two former test cricketers, and other well respected sportsmen and women have helped form a new political party. This party will henceforth be known as the ‘Sport for Australians Party’.
The Sports for Australians Party has three major concerns about sport in Australia, which we would like to address.
1. That international cricket, grand slam tennis and golf, and all major football codes, including, AFL, NRL, Rugby Union and Soccer internationals remain accessible to all Australians on free to air television.
2. That admission to live sport in Australia remains affordable to all Australians.
3. To ensure that profits from these major sports contribute sufficiently to promoting, supporting, and funding junior sport within Australia.
The Sport for Australians Party will have six candidates standing for the Senate in the next federal election. These candidates, including former international sportsmen, will be introduced to the public, and the media, in a press conference on the steps of the old Parliament House in Canberra at 11am, on the 30th of June, 2011.
